downdrafts
image

In windy conditions at Diamond Point Airport, downdrafts often occur on approach to landing. Watch your airspeed and altitude; fly a steeper approach on final than usual. Runway 29 is slightly sloped uphill, enough to create a sight-picture that may make it appear that you are higher than you are.

Having to go around if you’re too high is preferred to the alternative. Strong downdrafts can easily exceed aircraft climb performance.

Diamond Point Procedures for further information.
